Hudson County, in conjunction with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), began conducting this study in the fall of 2019 to explore options for improving the corridor of JFK Boulevard from Pavonia Avenue to St. Paul’s Avenue in Jersey City – one of the most highly used corridors by motorists, pedestrians, transit users and bicyclists. Almost half of Jersey City residents use public transportation to commute to/from work. Following the Complete Streets policies set by both Jersey City and Hudson County, the goals of the study are to improve safety for all road users and optimize travel time for commuters and residents.

Some of the project components included a well-rounded Public Involvement Action Plan (PIAP) to identify stakeholders and strategies to engage the public early on in the process, local officials briefings, two stakeholder meetings and two public information sessions, the creation and maintenance of a project website and flyers to thoroughly explain the LCD process and keep the residents informed. Stokes also assisted the team with obtaining resolutions of support and a public involvement summary report upon completion of the study.
