The Clay Street Bridge is an important transportation connection for residents and commuters in Hudson County, both to and from Newark’s downtown business district and residential complexes. Both Hudson and Essex counties are working in coordination with the NJTPA, NJDOT and local municipalities to conduct a local concept development study (LCD) of the existing bridge to determine what improvements can be made to the bridge’s structural deficiencies to maintain this important link for the region and local communities. Because community feedback is vital to the LCD study, Hardesty & Hanover enlisted the services of Stokes Creative Group, Inc. to help create public awareness of the project and the study.

To assist with the project’s public outreach efforts, Stokes designed and developed a project website to increase visibility of the project, as well as to solicit stakeholder and community involvement and feedback through the online stakeholder survey. The user-friendly website allows users to easily navigate through each page to learn more about the project, the bridge’s history, the purpose of the study and also provides the public with information on ways to get involved.
In addition, Stokes set up a Twitter account to attract followers and drive traffic to the project website. Utilizing both the website and “tweets” the team was able to build a positive project image and keep the stakeholders and general public informed of project events and progress.
The project website can be viewed at www.claystbridge.com.
