Stokes is proud to have been the public outreach lead for the P3 team on VDOT’s Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project. This ambitious project upgraded 22.5 miles of Interstate 66 between I-495/Capital Beltway and U.S. Route 29 in Gainesville. The upgrades included adding two new express lanes in each direction and adding auxiliary lanes where necessary. Major interchange improvements included creating new and expanded park-and-ride lots totaling more than 4,000 new spaces.

Partnering directly with the Director of Corporate Affairs and the Public Relations Manager of the P3 team, Stokes’ role was to ensure effective, thorough messaging through public outreach and media/stakeholder relations. Stokes facilitated community and stakeholder meetings, advised on media trends, managed and monitored social media, and managed the project hotline. Stokes provided this comprehensive project, involving many different stakeholder groups, with distinct yet cohesive messaging on all issues and updates throughout construction, including online/print materials and presentations.
The project also included 11 miles of new shared-use trail along I-66 that integrates with county and park trails, and 11 bridges with new or expanded bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
