Downtown Camden Master Plan

Over the past decade, the physical landscape of the City of Camdenโ€™s downtown has changed dramatically. Public and private sector partners have worked together to invest resources into housing, public infrastructure, transportation, transit, open spaces, and creative placemaking initiatives to rebuild the city.

With this goal in mind, Camden County is updating the Downtown Camden Master Plan to engage community members, businesses, institutions, and public sector agencies in a collective effort to develop a cohesive plan for the growth of the City of Camdenโ€™s downtown district.

What we Did

Public participation is key to achieving the community input necessary for shaping the preferred concept for downtown redevelopment. To support the public outreach tasks, Stokes Creative Group, Inc. (Stokes) closely worked with key stakeholders throughout the master planning in an effort to understand their vision, which will help inform the planning effort and identify opportunities that foster and support additional growth and redevelopment.

The overall community involvement goal extends beyond just informing the public of the project, but also includes building an ongoing dialogue that engages the community, fosters transparency, and allows public input on the issues that concern them. Stokes organized meetings open to city residents, as well as several meetings with stakeholders, which included resident associations, property owners, small businesses, professionals, business owners, and public sector partners.

Stokes also reviewed and updated existing outreach materials and translated them into Spanish when necessary. The team will also update the stakeholder list, create an online and print survey, organize a visioning workshop for stakeholders and public sector partners, and prepare an outreach summary at the conclusion of the project.
