Stokes Creative Group Leading Public Involvement for Replacement of the Tappan Zee Bridge

Stokes Creative Group (Stokes) is designing and implementing an ambitious Public Involvement Program (PIP) Support Plan for the $3.9 billion replacement of the Tappan Zee Bridge, known as the “New NY Bridge Project.”  As part of the Design-Build team of the Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC, Stokes will be involved from planning and design through construction - providing public outreach and information services. As part of this effort Stokes will utilize all of its talents in the technical media area to help keep all parties informed throughout design and construction; respond to the public and press inquiries; create and distribute public information materials; develop branding and style materials that will come to signify the project; and organize public events for project milestones, including the opening ceremony.

The Tappan Zee Bridge, which was built in 1955, has stood beyond its useful lifespan and is a constant source of traffic congestion in the region. The New NY Bridge Project will incorporate improved structural, operational, mobility, safety, and security features. Key elements of the new bridge include reduced congestion with eight traffic lanes, four breakdown/emergency lanes, and new E-Z Pass lanes; a bike/pedestrian path; and provisions for future bus, rapid transit, and rail. The state-of-the-art New NY Bridge will not need major repairs for over 100 years.

As part of the Tappan Zee Constructors design-build team, Stokes is working with the New York State Thruway Authority and other state agencies to help engage and inform the public at all stages of the project over the course of the next five years. Through public meetings as well as other social media channels such as websites, Stokes will keep the public informed throughout the life of the project, while inviting the public to participate in a dialogue about the project. Stokes will use its proven video production, graphic design and other illustrative capabilities to help convey the project’s goals and highlights.

Stokes has a solid track record in designing and implementing well documented Public Involvement Programs aimed at increasing public confidence throughout the life of large-scale transportation infrastructure improvement programs. With more than 25 years of expertise, the firm’s community outreach process focuses on establishing common objectives and providing a full range of successful strategies for achieving those objectives. Throughout the tri-state area, Stokes has cultivated successful relationships with transportation agencies and consultants alike by providing unique communications solutions on their most prominent projects. Stokes’ information, communication, and multimedia campaigns enable projects to run as smoothly as possible; in turn, engineers, architects, and project owners can focus on completing their projects on schedule and within budget.

Stokes’ public involvement role on the New NY Bridge project is enhanced by the firm’s full range of multimedia capabilities. Stokes brings specialized expertise in video production, as well as the development of photographs, renderings and visualizations, websites and other technical media for major transportation construction projects throughout the region. The firm’s creative technical media capabilities have been integral to the success of projects large and small over the years, including the ongoing $2.7 billion NJ Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening.

Stokes’ role on the New NY Bridge project is a natural extension of this work history—25 years of experience dedicated to conceptualizing, designing, and producing print collateral, websites, interactive media, and video productions. Formerly known as JMS Visual Communications, today Stokes Creative Group is a full-service agency that specializes in the transportation and construction industries.

Stokes is certified to work throughout the Northeast from Massachusetts to Georgia and maintains certifications as a WBE/DBE/SBE (Woman/Small Business Enterprise).

April 2012:
Ever create a print that is 11 feet high and 300 feet long?
Stokes creative group has.  From concept to execution Stokes was all over the walls of Terminal Constructions new World Headquarters. The project involved creating a montage of the company’s legacy showing many of the signature projects that they have built over the past century.  Every image had to be setup perfectly and when dealing with old images that is always a challenge.  Stokes has been photographing projects for Terminal over the past decade or so. This gave a good base of more current images to work with.  The final design was floor to ceiling and had to plan for furniture and door placements even wall fixtures. Once the design was approved several days of installation took place to install the wall coverings.  When completed the 3000 square feet of wall space was transformed to artwork sure to impress visitors for years.

April 14 2011:

Stokes Creative Group, Inc. was a major contributing sponsor for one of the most important Transportation Conference and Expos in New Jersey: The NJ Council on Special Transportation’s (NJCOST) TransAction 2011. This conference and expo took place April 6th–8th, 2011 at the Tropicana Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. Stokes Creative Group, Inc. provided sponsorship for refreshments and special events throughout the three day conference as well as donating the company’s design expertise to create the cover of the TransAction 2011 Directory.

Joanne Stokes, President/Founder of Stokes Creative Group, Inc. and JMS Visual Communications was on site throughout the entire conference. As a Board Member of the Greater New York Chapter of the Womens’ Transportation Seminar (WTS) she played a major role organizing and executing a panel session entitled “Contracting Opportunities in New Jersey for 2011-2012.”
The esteemed panel included speakers from major NJ Transportation organizations: Mary K. Murphy, Executive Director of the New Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA); Samuel L. Donelson, Deputy Executive Director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA); and Andrea E. Ward, Director of Purchasing at the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA). The session provided a prime networking opportunity for large firms, small firms, and clients. The information the panelists shared would serve to prepare program managers, project managers, and business development personnel in contractor A/E/C firms and Small Business Enterprises to evaluate and effectively respond to anticipated contracts. By sharing this “inside information” with the firms in advance the agencies will create more robust competition among firms, as they will now be able to better prepare for their submissions.

Thanks to the hard work of Joanne Stokes and the WTS, the session was a great success, with the room filled beyond capacity with interested TransAction attendees!
